Waiting for the Green
“It’s always Something” When Planning the Perfect Shoot
When the pandemic was declared in March 2020, most of Bauhaus Media’s regular business just stopped happening. But that was quickly replaced by new business from organizations that needed to meet and communicate remotely. We’ve talked about that before in this blog, and probably will talk about it again as other novel projects continue to come up.
But as some of the “normal” business returns, “normal” itself keeps playing tricks. One important Bauhaus project involves a new product for outdoor recreational activities. We’ll name that product later, when we discuss the project more in-depth. But this post is about how, as Saturday Night Live’s Rosanna Rosanna Dana would say, “It’s always something!”
This product’s developer had already postponed the release for almost a year due to the pandemic, so when restrictions began to be lifted, he was eager to get started. Unfortunately, it was winter and even in Texas winter doesn’t look like summer. That was important because most of what we wanted to shoot would be outside. As we were planning all this, the 2021 winter had been mild. But, just when we were ready to go: Boom! The big freeze of February 2021 hit.
That freeze – which shut down most of the state, caused homes and businesses to lose power, almost crashed the state’s electrical grid, and in fact caused several deaths – also resulted in Bauhaus postponing business for a week. But even after the freeze was over, we found things were not back to “normal” overnight. Two of the main locations we wanted to shoot – Woodlawn Lake and a private residence – looked more brown than green. It would be a while before the grass and trees took on the look of spring.
Finally, we picked a mid-April date for the shoot. Keeping our fingers crossed, but things are looking good.
