Keeping Up with Technology
Out with the Old. In with the New.
At Bauhaus, we don’t try to “keep up with the Joneses,” but we do try to keep up with technology. Newer and better software and hardware hit the market every day. And, as a first-quality production house, the Bauhaus Media Group uses only the best.
One result of this is that we retire “gently used” items that are still highly desired by other photographers and videographers. So, recently, our office manager Chanel has become something of an ebay expert.
“The difficulty was that being new sellers on eBay, we didn’t have any buyer reviews. We needed to differentiate ourselves from commercial sellers, but also make it clear that we were a step up from hobbyists and other one-shot individuals,” Chanel said.
Hours were spent meticulously researching and cleaning every piece, white gloves and all! The items for sale included several lenses and two Nikon camera bodies. She then carefully photographed the items to clearly illustrate what each item was and its pristine condition.
“We needed to display them in a way that shows we are a trusted seller who understands the product,” Chanel said.
All but two of the lenses have already sold. A Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 100mm Lens for Nikon F-Mount Camera and a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm ED VR Lens still await new adventures. And, now Bauhaus Media Group has 39 positive reviews on eBay, for 100% positive feedback.
Why was Bauhaus letting go of this particular group of camera bodies and lenses? Eric said it was more about practical considerations than quality.
“We were looking at not only the quality of the equipment, but also efficiency of use,” Eric said. “We are switching over to all Sony lenses because they have the same mount as our Sony videocameras. And they also have the highest quality sensors.”
