Music Video Features Old San Antonio
Austin Director Uses Bauhaus Talent for Cali-based Tejano Feature
Special lighting effects to bring out the full darkness of San Antonio’s Black Swan Inn called for the talents of Bauhaus associate Brandon Sappington. Austin Director Teresa Jolie chose the venue for the band’s new release “Santa Borrachera” to help give the right feel to the video.
Lighting is one of many talents Sappington brings to the set. For this shoot, Jolie was looking for textural lighting, including shafts of light, smoke, warm tones…. Resembling films from Mexico’s Golden Age of Cinema in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Some of the video is shot in sepia tone, to give it that antique feel.
“It’s a macabre story about a woman who drives a man to drinking then belittles him for it,” Brandon said. Thought to be haunted, the Black Swan Inn provided an ideal setting for the shoot. And the lyrics are pretty heavy too: “I can only tell you one thing, dammit. I’m drunk and you’re angry!” (In Spanish, of course.)
